This nv charts collection, produced by Nautical Publications, is especially made with the requirements of the advanced yachtsman in mind. These brilliant, high-color raster charts have these features and benefits:

  • Fine contours and easy to distinguish color graduations of the depth line: turquoise for coral reefs, red for the 2 meter (6 feet) line and blue for the 6 meter (18 feet) line
  • Well marked rivers, towns and street plans all help to give a clear overall view of the shore side facilities
  • Heights and depths given in the internationally accepted meters units (only Region 8.2 are presented in feet)
  • Red numbers waypoints with coordinates based on WGS 84 enable yachtsmen to compare with their GPS instruments
  • Coastal charts have scales for safe navigationpassage charts give overviews for planning
  • Many details and harbours are included in large scales
  • Large-scale approaches and land contour markings simplify the entrance into anchorages
  • Harbor and Anchorage Pilots are included in chart Regions 8.2, 9.1, 9.3, 11 and Baltic Regions 1 to 5
  • Charts download directly to your compatible iOS, Android, Windows or MacOS software, no CD/DVD to purchase or shipping to pay (though optionally you can choose to have the paper chart kit companion shipped to you; see below)
  • Waypoints, routes, and tracks graphically layer over but do not alter the official underlaying raster charts
  • Subscription to this chart collection provides two things: (i) chart content updates that stay stored on your device / computer for offline use; and (ii) re-downloads of charts files in case of file loss from device memory or storage drive

MacENC and GPSNavX on MacOS

Downloading is done with a free app, then MacENC is directed to the folder where the charts reside.

Quick summary: download the NavX app, download link posted at http://gpsnavx.com/navx-for-mac; install and run NavX; enter your Fugawi.com email + password in Account; click Activate Products to select MacENC and a target download folder; click Activate to download the charts files. Start up MacENC and point Chart Manager at the chart folder.

Download Instructions + Tips in Detail

  1. From http://gpsnavx.com/navx-for-mac click the NavX download link. A DMG (disk image) file saves to the Mac's desktop.
  2. Click open the navx.dmg and then click the NavX package to install the app, accepting all the defaults of the installer.
  3. In the Mac's Finder, click Applications | NavX.
  4. Click the Account button and enter your Fugawi.com account's Email and Password.
  5. Click the Activate Products button.
  6. When prompted for your charting software, select MacENC.
  7. From the Products drop-down list, select this nv charts title and click the Activate button.
  8. Select a folder on the hard drive (preferably under Documents | Charts) into which the chart files are to be saved.
    • Usage tip: As you browse down nested hard drive folders, use slow single clicks to navigate the folder structure; a fast double-click will force the app to select a folder you may not have intended.
    • Another tip: Before committing to a target folder to hold the chart files, you may temporarily use Finder to navigate to Documents, click File | New Folder, name the folder as you like.
    • Important: Do not select a folder already containing a different chart collection's files. This chart collection must be in its own unique folder -- unless you are updating this very same chart collection, in which case answer Yes to the confirmation prompt for replacing existing files.
  9. Confirm the activation of this product.
    • Note: Activating the chart files to this single computer means simply copy / paste of files to other computers will never allow success use of the charts on that other computer.
  10. NavX lists each chart file as they download, one by one. If any download errors are listed, run the NavX app again and try the chart download again. Only failed file downloads will be attempted again.
  11. In the Finder, click Applications | MacENC.
  12. Click File | Chart Manager | Add Chart Folder... and browse to the download folder containing the charts.

MacENC and GPSNavX

  1. From http://gpsnavx.com/navx-for-mac click the NavX Download link. A DMG (disk image) file saves to the Mac's desktop or downloads folder.

  2. Click the navx.dmg to mount and open it. Then click the NavX package (pkg) to install the app.
When prompted by the installer, click Continue and Install; enter your MacOS login password and click Install Software. At the end of the installation click Close.

  3. In the MacOS Finder, click Applications | NavX.
Tip #1: If a security caution blocks launching NavX, then press the Apple command key  while right-clicking NavX; and then select Open from the context menu. Alternatively, you may wish to enter the Apple menu | System Preferences | Security and Privacy; in there, adjust your settings to allow use of web apps not from the Mac Store.

  4. In NavX, click the Account button and enter your Fugawi.com account's Email and Password. Then click Save.
Tip #2: If the Account dialog refuses to go away after clicking Save, that means either the password was entered incorrectly or the app has a problem reaching out over the Internet to the Fugawi.com service.

  5. Click the Activate Products... button.
Tip #3: If you soon get a "no products" type of error message, that means the account logged into has no chart products at all, or no products within their subscription time range for downloading.

  6. When prompted to indicate your charting software, select MacENC or GPSNavX -- which ever of these software titles is installed in your computer.

  7. From the Products drop-down list, select this chart product title.
Tip #4: If you have multiple compatible chart products within subscription range, you may need to click the blue down-arrow at the right hand edge of Products in order to see and select the intended product.

    Then click the Activate button.

  8. Browse to a folder on the hard drive (preferably under Documents | Charts or similar) into which the chart files are to be saved.
Tip #5: Before committing to a target folder to save chart files into, you may briefly use Finder to navigate to Documents, click File | New Folder and name the new folder as you like. Then return to the dialog for browsing to a target folder.

Tap Select to designate the parent folder under which the chart product will download as a uniquely named sub-folder.
Tip #6: As you browse down nested hard drive folders, use slow single clicks to navigate the folder structure; a fast double-click will force the app to select a folder you may not have intended.

    • Important: Do not select a folder already containing a different chart collection's files. This collection of chart files must be in its own unique folder -- unless you are updating this very same charts collection, in which case answer Yes to the confirmation prompt for replacing existing files.

  9. Confirm the activation of this product.

    • Explanation: Activating the chart files to this single computer means they are copy protected and only eligible to function on the unique computer. Therefore, a copy / paste of files or a backup / restore operation will never allow successful use of the chart files on a different computer system.

  10. NavX lists each chart file as they download, one by one. If any download errors are listed, run the NavX app again. NavX will try once again to download charts files, but only those that failed to download previously.

  11. In the Finder, click Applications | MacENC or GPSNavX -- which ever one applies.

  12. In MacENC, click File | Chart Manager | Add Chart Folder... and browse to the download folder containing the charts.
Tip #7: Do not click the Add ENC Catalog button, that does not work with Fugawi downloadable charts of any type.

For GPSNavX, the final steps are similar except chart management is done under the Preferences menu.

Going forward, one way you may select a chart set for viewing is within chart management dialog.
